External lever locks are visible and can often be tensioned with a small tool or dial; internal twist locks create a clean profile but depend on internal expansion and correct tightening. Either can work when maintained and used as designed. Extend each section only within its marked range, close the lock fully, and load the pole vertically before walking. More sections create a shorter packed length but also add joints that need inspection. Check for unwanted play when the pole is assembled and for smooth alignment when it folds. Ask whether lower shafts, tension cords, tips, baskets, and locks are replaceable, and whether parts are available where you live. Use Manufacturer-Specific Care

After wet or dusty trips, separate sections if the maker permits, clean them, and let them dry fully before storage. Do not add oil or grease unless the manufacturer specifically instructs it; contamination can reduce lock friction or attract grit. Store locks released when recommended, check fasteners periodically, and retire a shaft that is cracked, deeply gouged, permanently bent, or unable to hold its setting.
